IN SEVERAL OF MY SCHOOL REPORTS TEACHERS DESCRIBED ME AS "HAPPY-GO-LUCKY." I LIKED IT: IT SOUNDED NICE - HAPPY AND LUCKY - EVEN IF BACK THEN THAT ATTITUDE WAS ALWAYS GETTING ME INTO TROUBLE. IT WOULD TAKE ME MANY YEARS OF PRACTICE TO MASTER THE ART OF BEING THIS WAY.

In these times of change people are looking for simple things, simple pleasures, a return to more innocent times. And what could be simpler than a round piece of plastic? It flies; it inspires people; it brings people together. Freestyle exist because I love Frisbees and I love my work and because of my philosophy towards life. Since my school days I have worked hard to build a life where there isn't much difference between work and play - and I've spent the past few years making that a reality. One of the results is this round magazine inside a Frisbee, a magazine full of delicious imagery and a melting pot of creative people who like to play.

If you are reading this then I imagine you share similar ideas of work and play (otherwise you surely wouldn't be buying a round magazine in a Frisbee). Understand this though: it is not easy getting the work-play balance right and the urge to play can easily affect how good you are at what you do and whether or not people take you seriously. Being happy-go-lucky can inspire people, but it can also make other people nervous, often because the by-product of a playful disposition is chaos.

This is freestyle.

Anyway, here's some info about your disc. Firstly, it's a good one. Not some crappy piece of plastic that falls like a stone but a limited-edition Wham-O # 10 mold HDX Frisbee disc with a beautiful custom design by Eley Kishimoto. Their famous flash pattern symbolises masculine and feminine and has reference to rock'n roll and we think it is the perfect accompaniment for Freestyle Magazine issue one. This highly collectible old school frisbee is a great throw-and-catch disc with excellent stability and a solid flight pattern. It's good for boys and it's good for girls.

Once we've mastered this disc then we will move on to another one - perhaps a 150g Tournament model or a 160g Skystyler - which will once again sport a fabulous design by a fabulous freestyler. Then we'll move forward, getting fitter and better at Frisbee, meeting like-minded people while reading informative articles and looking at the most beautiful artwork. We like to think of Freestyle Magazine as the ultimate marriage between creativity and play.

Or, to put it another way, the freestyle dream.
