Print is dead.
Or so they say.
We say, let's have fun finding out.
Welcome to issue one of Brouhaha, a labour of love presented in 3D.
With the advancements 3D has made of late, this might be the last time you get to enjoy the classic red and blue glasses of old. Our designers have slaved away learning how to transform pictures into 3D and then made it happen throughout the magazine, so we hope you enjoy a good old-fashioned look at our feature on the future of this technology.
creative.culture is the theme of Brouhaha, and we're celebrating the best of each that Hong Kong has to offer. From Hatch.hk, Hong Kong's first illustration agency, giving a collective voice to the talented; to the regular Three section, which we kick off by speaking to three young creative entrepreneurs. Next month we'll feature an entirely new theme that binds three different highlighted people - who knows, you could be one of them.
You are in our minds when we're creating this. If you've picked this up in a bar and you're waiting for a friend, why not finish the picture on page 36? If you're not in the mood to read a feature, try the bite size nonsense of Stories For No One, or read some local fiction in the short story section. Media history fans will know that publishing short stories in magazines died out as a popular method of entertainment in the 1950s (pesky television). If print's dead, as they say, then there are no longer any rules, so we're back presenting fiction and we're loving it.
This inky paper publication you hold in your hands is both archaic in form and forward-thinking in design and ideas. With this and our stylish and slick website, we're quietly confident we've got all bases covered. We're doing it our way, for you. For albums we're choosing things you might not know but might like to hear, for features we're providing honest viewpoints free of hyperbole and celebrity and product worship.
Brouhaha is free, new and for you. You've told us what Hong Kong's magazines are missing and we've replied with Brouhaha. We're hitting our marks and tickling our fancy, but if you've any comments, suggestions, fun stuff, free stuff, hate mail, email or snail mail please send it in.
creative.culture.
This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
